WHAT IS HOGWILD?

It's a notion. A place. A state of mind.

Back in the early 1970s in the foothills of North Carolina there was a band of young folks that had an ideal of what life could be on 200 acres of wild woods with the dark Rocky Broad River easing its way through the land.

The people that lived there were called hippies. They believed in art, curiosity, peace, equality, freedom, food they grew themselves (when it wasn't hip), bluegrass (and yes, rock & roll) and helping each other build their homes from old barns scattered around the western part of the state.

As Jock Lauterer coins it in his book, Hogwild: A Back-To-The-Land Saga: “It was an outrageous name for an outrageous notion: that several families might form a loose confederation of homesteaders, buy a big chunk of land, build our own homes and become as self sufficient as practically possible.”

This is how Selena grew up. When she and Kelly created the company they knew it had to be named Hogwild Films. They realized they are the descendants of Hogwild "the place."

Hogwild Films strives to embrace the exuberant spirit in which those youngins' so valiantly embodied. But this time around it's virtual. The back-to-the-land movement of the 70s was a movement away from dependency on industrial institutions, the ultimate in do-it-yourself living. We see a similar trend in media now, when tools for real independence for artists exist as never before. Hogwild Films is where we stake out our little piece of the landscape.
